National History Day is an academic competition centered on research and critical thinking skills.  Every year students choose a topic related to the annual theme.  Then they conduct deep research like a historian.  They will begin with secondary sources and transition to primary sources.  Students will search libraries, archives, museums, interviews, and historical sites.  Students will have to explain how they know the information they are receiving is credible and reliable.  After the research is complete they will need to analyze and interpret it all and draw a conclusion about the importance of the chosen topic.  Students are able to present their research by writing a paper, preparing an exhibit, documentary, website, or performing
